I’m sharing a short bonus post this week.
Normal fortnightly service will resume next Monday with High Performance Swift Apps: Seek and Destroy Bottlenecks in your Code. I’ll be demonstrating how I evaluated my new indie project, Check ‘em, and improved its performance by 1,000%.
Twitter vs X: App Binary Comparison
I recently worked with the Emerge Tools team to write a guest post on their blog, comparing the original Twitter app from 2023 to the latest X app binary.
Since it’s so rare for a mature company to shift back to move-fast-and-break-things mode, I wanted to see how this translated into their shipped app binary.

The post features insights such as:
A surprisingly high number of extra app icons
An architecture heavily using dynamic libraries
Possible evidence of an aborted re-architecting
About Emerge Tools
I’ve liked using of Emerge Tools since I stumbled upon them during my last startup. Their tools are a lifesaver for mobile engineers that want to keep an eye on their app’s size and performance.
In fact, the gushing Tweet I wrote after I tried them out lived on their landing page for over a year—probably the most traction I’d got on Twitter until 2023!
I suppose you could say I’m a fan.
