1. Introduction

Welcome to Aviator. I value the privacy of my users, and I’m committed to protecting you. This Privacy Policy outlines how I collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use my app.

By using Aviator, you consent to the data practices described in this policy. If you do not agree with the terms in this policy, please do not use the application.

tl;dr I don’t collect anything

2. Information We Collect

To provide the service, Aviator requests permission to access your device's location services.

2.1 Coordinates

We measure your latitude and longitude coordinates through Apple’s CoreLocation API. This data is used to search for planes in the skies nearby.

2.2 Orientation Data

We also measure your orientation, in order to rotate the radar and map UI, and ensure the planes on the screen match their location in the sky. This data is not transmitted outside the app.

3. How We Use Your Information

Your approximate location data—precise to 0.1 degrees (approx. 10km)—is used to request flight data fromthe open-source OpenSky Network API, to find and display planes in your vicinity.

4. Third-Party Access

4.1 OpenSky Network

We submit your approximate location data to within 0.1 degrees (approx. 10km) with the OpenSky Network to facilitate the app. This data does not include any personal or identifying information.

4.2 No Sale of Personal Data

At no point do we sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your personal data. We only provide approximate location data to trusted third parties like OpenSky Network that powers my app.

5. User Anonymity

Aviator is designed to prioritize user anonymity. Users are not required to create any account, input their names, or use any other identifying data.

6. Security of Your Information

We take the security of your data seriously. While no online service can guarantee absolute security, we take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, theft, or modification.

7. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page, and if the changes are significant, we will provide a more prominent notice. Your continued use of Aviator after those changes become effective signifies your agreement to the revised policy.

8. Contact Us

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this Privacy Policy, please contact me at jacobbartlett95@gmail.com

Alternatively, leave a public comment here and I will get back to you speedily (I have my Substack notifications turned on!)

Wow, you read through the whole privacy policy! Congratulations — but I think you’d find my other Substack writing a lot more interesting!
